چکیده

Continuous wave (CW) laser-induced temperature rise is studied in Raman spectra of nanocrystalline-silicon (nC-Si) films on quartz and sapphire substrates. The zone-center-phonon (ZCP) mode in the Raman spectra shows remarkably different frequencies in the thin films as the incident CW laser power density is increased (always kept lower than that used during annealing). For the films on the quartz substrate, the prominent ZCP mode shows a rather large phonon softening from 517 to 485 c m . The phonon softening in the nC-Si film on sapphire substrate was from 517 to 508 c m . In order to see the role of laser heating, we have also computed the temperature rise in the two films by employing Green's function heat diffusion equations for the twolayered structures. We could ascribe the differences in laser-induced phonon softening in the two films to the rise in temperatures. Good agreement between temperatures obtained by Raman data and heat diffusion equation is achieved here. PACS: 63.50.qx; 63.20.R; 81.40 E

Polymorphous Si thin films from radio frequency plasmas of SiH4 diluted in Ar: A study by transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy

In this study, we present a detailed structural characterization by means of transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy of polymorphous silicon ~pm-Si:H! thin films deposited using radio-frequency dust-forming plasmas of SiH4 diluted in Ar. Square-wave modulation of the plasma and gas temperature was varied to obtain films with different nanostructures. Transmission electron micros...

Formation of Ge nanocrystals and SiGe in PECVD grown SiNx:Ge thin films

Formation of Ge nanocrystals in SiNx matrices has been studied using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition in both as deposited samples as well as in post-vacuum annealed samples. Low temperature and short duration anneals in vacuum resulted in Ge nanocrystals whereas prolonged anneals at higher temperatures resulted in Ge nanocrystals accompanied with SiGe formation at the SiNx/Si interfac...

Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering of Silicon Nanocrystals in a Silica Film

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is an intriguing effect, efficiency of which depends on many factors and whose applicability to a given system is not obvious before the experiment. The motivation of the present work is to demonstrate the SERS effect on silicon nanocrystals (Si-nc) embedded in silica, the material of high technological importance. Using the Ag overlayer method, we have ...

Optical based thermal probing and characterization

Optical methods are promising tools for small-scale thermal probing and characterization. A lab-developed photothermal (PT) technique provides a noncontact method to characterize the thermal transport along the thickness direction of a multilayered film by analyzing the phase shift of the thermal radiation from the sample’s surface. Aiming to reduce the calibration in the phase shift method, a ...
